Stewart International Airport in the US will replace existing taxiway edge lights with new energy-efficient LEDs.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has awarded a $10.6m contract to Verde Electric to replace the lights in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
The project includes substituting existing underground wiring with new cable, using protective concrete ducts.
The new LED lights offer a longer service life and consume less power than the existing incandescent lights. The new system’s ducts will also help augment reliability.
Port Authority chairman Anthony Coscia said the lighting system upgrade at Stewart International Airport would help improve the facility’s operational capabilities while also being environmentally responsible.
“Upon completion of the project, Stewart will have more efficient lights with increased reliability that will use less energy and cost less money,” Coscia said.
