Work has begun on the $7.2m main runway renovation project at Glacier Park International Airport (GPIA) in the US city of Kalispell.

Work began at the exterior of the runway safety section and will be extended to the primary runway on 3 August. The project is scheduled for completion by 28 August.

The airport will remain closed with no commercial air carrier service on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the month of August.

For nearly five years, the runway rehabilitation project has been part of GPIA’s capital enhancement proposal.
