The Government of Vietnam has pledged $601m to transform Cam Ranh Airport in central Vietnam from a domestic to an international airport.

The new airport will cover about 657.9ha in Khanh Hoa province, located 440km north of Ho Chi Minh City.

The airport will be expanded to serve more than 5.5 million passengers and 100,000t of cargo a year by 2020. Capacity will be further increased to eight million passengers and 200,000t of cargo by 2030.
