Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in the US has signed a contract with Bombardier Transportation for the supply, operations and maintenance of an Innovia automated people mover (APM) system.

The new automated system will transport people to and from the airport.

The $186m design-build contract encompasses design and supply of the system-wide electrical and mechanical equipment, and construction and equipping of the operations, maintenance and storage facility (OMSF).

Bombardier will provide operation and maintenance services for ten years at a cost of $69m, under a separate operate-maintain contract.

The first stage of the 3.5km (2.2-mile) PHX SkyTrain is due for completion in 2012.
