India’s new Chandigarh International Airport is expected to be operational by August 2009.
The new airport will serve up to 400 passengers a day, and increase on the current 100.
The Chandigarh administration and the Airport Authority of India will install computers, X-ray machines and other infrastructure in July 2009, reports indianexpress.com quoting a senior airport official.
The security personnel at the airport will be provided by the Punjab government.
The Airport Authority of India has proposed to extend the watch hours of air traffic controllers (ATC) up to midnight in order to serve late-night international flight operations.
FlyDubai Airlines was expected to begin operations at the airport in July 2009, but was delayed due to the setting up of the required infrastructure for night flying at the airport.
