The Government of Gambia and the OPEC fund for international development has approved an $8m grant for the second phase of a rehabilitation project at Banjul International Airport in Gambia.

The project aims to increase the passenger traffic and cargo handling capacity at the airport, which has seen growth in both areas.

This includes rehabilitation and expansion of the concrete taxi area and passenger arrival and departure terminal, and the construction of two new corridors as well as a new fire and rescue station.

In addition, the project also involves rehabilitation of the control tower, as well as installation and operation of new equipment.
