Niagara Falls International Airport in the US will open its new $31.6m terminal in September 2009.
The new building will provide triple the space of the old terminal, allowing it to handle more than one commercial flight at a time.
The airport currently handles six commercial passenger flights a week, including arrivals and departures.
Niagara Falls Airport currently operates from a one-storey terminal without air conditioning, and a baggage conveyor belt that draws back if the handler does not remove baggage at the end.
Despite announcing an opening date, however, the Niagara Falls Transit Authority is still short $14.5m of the total $42.5m required for its airport improvement project.
Once the new terminal is in place, the airport will carry around 525,000 passengers travelling in and out annually.
The airport served 39,633 passengers in 2008.
