A joint venture between DataCore Software and Waterstons has installed a new storage area network virtual infrastructure within data centres at Newcastle Airport in the UK.

The airport chose the SANmelody storage virtualisation solution to reduce maintenance costs and provide energy savings in line with the airport’s green initiatives and improved disaster-recovery processes.

As a part of the project, two storage servers have been deployed that have in-built synchronous replication across gigabit networks to ensure that they are identical copies of each other.

In the event of a component failure the other server can instantly take over the workload.

The airport has connected the two data centres over an IP-based network using an internet small computer system interface to allow the technology to be readily operable over the highly flexible Ethernet network, which connects the two data centres.
