London Heathrow Airport in the UK has successfully completed £16m check-in rehabilitation work at terminal 3.

Refurbishment of the check-in area is a part of a £133m development programme underway at terminal 3.

The work has created a more modern space with upgraded technology to make the check-in process more efficient for passengers and airlines.

The refurbishment included placing 30 self-service check-in machines and new lighting and ceilings as well as fitting check-in desks with state-of-the-art flight information display screens.

A 17-lane security area will soon be available in the terminal, the biggest within the airport.

In addition, over £20m will be invested for renovation of the immigration and baggage reclaim halls, scheduled for 2011.

Around £4bn is also being invested in redesigning, rebuilding and refurbishing all of Heathrow’s terminals for the next five years. Work to replace terminals 1 and 2 as well as terminal 2A is underway, while £178m is being invested at terminal 4.
