Switzerland-based Schindler Group will install 117 elevators, escalators and moving walkways at Germany’s Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BBI) and 60 installations at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in India.
The installations are aimed at increasing each airport’s handling capacity to 25 million passengers annually.
Schindler Group will install 73 elevators and elevating platforms, 16 moving walkways and 28 escalators at BBI. The work will begin in October 2009 and is expected to be complete by 2011.
In addition, more installations are likely to be added as BBI expects to increase its passenger traffic to up to 45 million in the coming years.
Schindler will also install 24 elevators and 20 escalators along with 16 moving walkways at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. This project is scheduled to begin in November 2010 and is expected to complete by March 2011.
Schindler’s installations will provide fast movement within the terminals, as well as efficient connections to trains, buses and parking areas.
