Smiths Detection will provide automatic explosives detection equipment and checkpoint X-ray security solutions to Qatar’s New Doha International Airport (NDIA) under new contracts worth $20m.
The security systems company will integrate more than 12 HI-SCAN automatic explosives detection X-ray screening systems in the airport’s baggage handling system to scan check-in and transfer baggage.

Smiths, in collaboration with Qatar security systems, has also won a contract to supply and install approximately 150 X-ray inspection systems used at airport checkpoints for cabin and oversize baggage screening.
The NDIA is being constructed near the city of Doha. Once completed, it will be around 12 times larger than the existing airport and will be capable of handling 40 million passengers and 750,000t of cargo a year.
