Plovdiv International Airport in Bulgaria has completed construction of its new terminal at a cost of BGL40m ($28.54m) and will commence regular operations by 1 August 2009.

The new terminal is aimed at transforming the region into a major tourist destination and increasing the amount of passenger traffic.

The funds for the new terminal were secured by the Ministry of Transportation and the chief airport operator, Letishte Plovdiv.

The airport is also planning to offer a new cargo terminal, which will have a positive impact on the local development and economy.

International Air Transport Association (IATA) has designated the airport’s facility service level as C class, which is capable of managing 1,000 passengers in a peak hour and a total of 500,000 passengers annually.
