A mechanical error at Heathrow International Airport’s Terminal 5 baggage systems stopped passengers from boarding their flights on 28 June.

The disruption began at midday and continued throughout the afternoon with most passengers with hold luggage not able to board flights.

BAA, which owns and operates the baggage systems at the airport, suspended check-in of hold luggage and efforts were made to resolve the issue and resume the normal operations as soon as possible.

Heathrow’s £4.3bn terminal faced baggage reclaim problems in March 2008, which forced British Airways to cancel 34 flights on the first day of operations.
