Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport in the US has awarded a $13.95m contract to KPS Group to provide design services for the estimated $193.3m terminal upgrade project.

The project will upgrade and expand the existing terminal to make it more convenient and safer to the travelling public, enhancing the airport security.

The terminal will be restructured and expanded to three times the current size. Most funding for the project will come from the federal government.

Passenger traffic at the airport has been increasing for the past few years as the airport serves as main gateway for passengers travelling from Mississippi and the surrounding states to Birmingham.
