A major security project upgrade has started at OR Tambo International Airport, as part of the airport’s preparation for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
South Africa is preparing to welcome 40 million passengers next year for the football game, and OR Tambo is installing a DVTel video surveillance system to ensure its passengers are safe.
OR Tambo International will install 650 IP surveillance cameras in the building linking international arrival and departures.
The management platform, DVTel intelligent security operations centre (iSOC), will aid the airport staff in monitoring, storing and utilising all camera data from hundreds of cameras deployed throughout airport grounds.
Video data will also be used for non-security operations applications allowing surveillance technology to be used as car park cameras at parking spaces for counting applications.
