Philadelphia International Airport will upgrade its baggage security system with federal stimulus funding of $26m.
The new security system will enable the airport to eliminate the need for bags to be screened manually for explosives.
The new system will expand the existing airport screening system to more areas within the airport.
The upgrade project is expected to begin towards the end of the year, and would take one to two years to complete.
After completion of the project, the airport will have four inline baggage screening systems instead of eight separate screening locations.
