The installation of whole-body imaging technology at Tampa International Airport (TIA) in the US has been protested by more than 30 privacy rights groups.
The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) and other local, state and national organisations wrote a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano to suspend the use of whole-body imaging technology at the airports.
The whole-body imaging technology captures detailed naked images of air travelers, Tampa Bay Online reports.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) claims that the images captured by the system are blurred and can show hidden weapons.
The observers seeing the blurred images will work from a different booth and cannot see the people whose images shown on a screen. The images captured for screening will not be stored.
