Harrisburg International Airport (HIA) in Pennsylvania in the US suffered a 10% drop in passenger traffic in March 2009 in comparison with the previous year’s figures, according to the Air Transport Association of America.

Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority board member David Reichow said that he attrbiutied the reduction to a fall in business travellers because of the global recession.

“The continued effect of the global recession has reduced the number of business travellers flying nationwide and from HIA. One encouraging sign is that air fares are now very competitive with those found outside our region to most destinations,” he said.

HIA plans to provide a new low-fare daily service to Atlanta with competitive prices throughout the summer from 11 June 2009.
