Opening of the Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai has been postponed by a year to June 2010, according to Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths.

Griffiths said that Dubai’s existing airport operation will be made more efficient. That could further delay the opening since the additional capacity created by the new airport will not be needed so quickly.

In addition, the number of runways has been reduced to five instead of six in the new airport, the Forbes website reported.
