The UK's Carlisle Airport is a step closer to undergoing a £25m improvement plan to allow it to run flights to London and Europe. Planning consent has been given by Carlisle City Council, which means Stobart, the construction firm behind the project, will be able to buy the land.

Planning consent has been given by Carlisle City Council, which means Stobart, the construction firm behind the project, will be able to buy the land.
The land has been leased to a farmer till 2011 and Stobart will now have to finalise terms of agreement.
