Several high-speed rail corridors across the US Midwest may now get the go ahead after the local transport department was awarded nearly $300,000.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has been awarded a $297,000 Intercity Capital Grant for the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative (MWRRI) by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
MWRRI, with its regional hub in Chicago, is a 3000-mile rail system that serves nine states with a combined population of 60 million.
In addition, the MWRRI member states will equal the injection from the FRA.
The project includes alternative route analysis, system cost updates, equipment and the preparation of public outreach materials.
