New York’s LaGuardia Airport will have a unified main terminal, with work on its $4bn first half likely to begin in 2016.
According to the plans revealed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and US Vice-President Joe Biden, the New Unified Terminal Structure will provide expanded transportation access and taxiway space, and better passenger amenities.

Cuomo said: "We are transforming LaGuardia into a globally-renowned, 21st century airport that is worthy of the city and state of New York."
The announcement comes about a year after Biden likened the airport to one from a ‘third world country’.
The airport’s existing terminal consists of several fragmented terminals. The new structure will be constructed by demolishing the existing Terminal B building operated by the Port Authority.
The western half of the new structure will include new terminal space and a new central arrivals and departures hall. It will also be connected to Delta Airlines’ Terminals C and D.

By GlobalDataThe eastern half, to be developed by Delta, will include redevelopment of the airlines’ existing terminals and linking them to the new arrivals and departures hall.
The first half of the terminal will double the airport’s space and create 8,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs.
To be constructed by the LaGuardia Gateway Partners consortium, the first half is likely to be opened by 2019.
LGP consists of Vantage Airport Group, construction JV Skanska and Walsh Construction, design JV HOK and Parsons Brinckerhoff , and equity investment partners Vantage, Skanska, and Meridiam.
