Vienna airport reports 4% rise in October passenger traffic

Vienna International Airport in Austria reported a 4% rise in passenger traffic during October 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, handling 1.99 million passengers.

Vienna International Airport in Austria reported a 4% rise in passenger traffic during October 2012 compared to the same month in 2011, handling 1.99 million passengers.

Aircraft movements, cargo and maximum take-off weight (MTOW) at the airport reported respective declines of 0.2%, 12.2% and 1.7% to 21,593t, 21,419t and 711,959t during the same period.

The number of transfer passengers at the airport increased 2.7% to 650,096, while the local passenger traffic rose 5% to 1.33 million when compared to the same month in 2011.

Vienna Airport reported 9.8% rise in passenger traffic to Eastern Europe, while passenger traffic to Western Europe and the Middle East rose 5.1% and 8% respectively during October over same period last year.

During the January to October 2012, passenger traffic at Vienna Airport increased 5.6% to 18.9 million.

International passenger traffic during the first ten months of 2012 rose 9.4% to 6.08 million, while domestic traffic reported a 4.1% rise to 12.8 million passengers.

Flight movements and MTOW declined 0.2% and 1.4% to 207,481 and 6.88 million tonnes respectively, when compared to the same period in 2011.

Cargo traffic during the initial ten months declined 9.2% to 210,493t.

Vienna Airport is anticipating a steady rise in passenger traffic during the second half (H2) of 2012 due to capacity variations by operating airlines.

However, airport operator Flughafen Wien expects passenger traffic during 2012 to rise 4% to 5%, stable in-flight movements of 0% to 1%, in addition to a 2% to 3% decline in MTOW.
