The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) intends to host a temporary TSA PreCheck application programme at Portland International Airport (PDX), Oregon, US.
Portland and Southwest Washington residents can apply for a fee of $85 for the security screening programme, which will be available from 11 to 22 April.
Applicants can complete their application online or in person at the centre, which will be positioned at the south end of the baggage claim area behind carousel two.
Online applicants will need to select an appointment date and time, as well as provide documents to prove their identity and citizenship status. Fingerprints will also be needed during the in-person application session.
US citizens and lawful permanent residents can directly apply to TSA PreCheck programme.
Travellers have to wear light outerwear, belt and shoes. Laptops will need to be stored in their cases and liquids / gels bag placed in a carry-on bag for TSA checkpoint screening lanes.
After the completion of the application process, a known traveller number (KTN) will be sent via US mail to successful applicants within a few weeks.
The number will be valid for five years and the travellers will need to enter their KTN while booking airline reservations.
The KTN can also be stored in frequent flyer profiles for future reservations with participating airlines.
More than 160 US airports and 13 airlines are currently participating in TSA PreCheck programme.
A temporary TSA PreCheck application centre has also been opened at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.
