CAA International (CAAi), the advisory unit of the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA), has been appointed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) to improve its aviation security.
CAAT’s security must comply with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards.
Under the project, CAAi will deploy a team of about ten experts to work with the authority in recertifying Thai-registered air operators’ certificates (AOCs).
The team also aims to eliminate a significant safety concern (SSC) raised by ICAO in 2015, and provide on-the-job flight operations training to CAAT Inspectors.
CAAi will also provide full-scale ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) preparation assistance before Thailand’s impending safety audit.
CAAi managing director Maria Rueda said: "With almost 600,000 passengers flying to Thailand from the UK alone in 2014 [Civil Aviation Authority, 2015], we are fully committed to assisting CAAT raise its level of effective implementation and meet the international safety standards set by ICAO.
"Working together, we are confident we can help lift the SSC and strengthen Thailand’s aviation safety oversight."
The CAAi project is expected to begin in May.
