Tanzania to expand three airports

Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) is planning to expand three medium size airports including Kigoma on Lake Tanganyika, Tabora in western Tanzania, and Bukoba on the western shores of Lake Victoria at an estimated cost of Tsh114.9bn ($71.9m).

Under the expansion plan, the three dilapidated airports will get new airport terminal houses, paved runways and a drainage system.

Construction General Gilard, in collaboration with Mwananchi Engineering and Constructing Company, will carry out the Bukoba airport expansion project, which will be completed within 18 months.

Sinohydro of China will carry out the work at the other two airports, with construction work to be completed within 18 months.

SSI Engineers and Environmental Consultants, in collaboration with the Howard Humphreys of Tanzania, will supervise the three airports, according to busiweek.com.
