Northrop Grumman's European air traffic management subsidiary Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems has completed the site acceptance test (SAT) of its NOVA 9000 Electronic Flight Strip System (EFSS) at Prague Ruzyne International Airport in the Czech Republic.
The system is being integrated under a contract awarded by the Air Navigation Services of the Czech Republic (ANSCR), which covers three separate systems, including the operational EFSS, a test system and a simulator system.
Completion of the SAT will help in managing the airport's air traffic control (ATC) tower operations through the integrated EFSS instead of its traditional paper strip-based operation.
ANSCR planning and development division project manager, Jan Kubicek, said the organisation has integrated the EFSS system to "enhance further and improve the efficiency at our air traffic control tower, and to fully benefit from the potential of our existing NOVA 9000 Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System."
Northrop's simulator system is currently undergoing software testing in preparation for the second SAT.
The project completion and site training of the EFSS is scheduled for October this year.
Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems Norway managing director, Eldar Hauge, said: "Following an intense period of close collaboration with Air Navigation Service of the Czech Republic we have reached a vital step in establishing a modern and intuitive solution for managing aircraft traffic."
Hauge continued: "Adopting the NOVA 9000 EFSS is a critical component to conquering the increasingly complex and safety-critical conditions of air traffic control at any airport."
Following the implementation, the integrated EFSS system will support efficiency by simplifying the handling of flight data at the airport.
The EFSS is also intended to improve the distribution of flight data throughout the complete system by exchanging surveillance event information with the NOVA Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System and the air traffic control tower, providing Prague ATC with a broader but simpler flight data management system.
