Northern Airports subsidiary Hanoi Ground Services is implementing SITA Departure Control Services to help handle passengers and airlines at Noi Bai International Airport in Vietnam.

The control services will provide fully automated boarding, check-in, security information services and interline through check-in information to facilitate passenger processing and reduce flight connection times.

The new service's next-generation load planning tool, Weight and Balance, will also help reduce fuel costs and loading errors at the airport.

The tool provides a GUI-based framework for all functionalities that are used to safely load and dispatch an aircraft, including all legally required documentation for airlines and ground handlers.

SITA regional vice-president of South Asia and India Damian Hickey said that SITA Departure Control Services is robust and proven, and that Hanoi Ground Services will see immediate benefits to its operations.

"Our integrated solution of weight and balance, check-in, boarding and advance passenger information services for security will ensure smooth passenger processing, while the inclusion of SITA network connections will provide Hanoi Ground Services with cost-effective connectivity," said Hickey.

Via a service-oriented architecture on an open systems platform, the tool uses a mixture of aircraft technical data, messaging and information on passengers, baggage, fuel and cargo to safely define and optimise operating parameters for each flight.

Hanoi Ground Services director Bui Anh said that many of the airlines flying into Hanoi airport were already using SITA Departure Control Services at other airports, and will now enjoy smoother operations from Hanoi Ground Services at Noi Bai International Airport.

"SITA's technology is world-class and future-proofed, meaning that as we develop the airport in the future, SITA's system will support the improvements such as new self-service offerings for our passengers," Anh said.

The project started in October and will be operational in January 2012.

The departure control services are implemented by airlines and ground handlers in over 300 airports worldwide for performing check-in, board operations and processing passengers.
