Munich Airport extends ARINC CUPPS solution contract

Munich Airport (MUC) in Germany has extended its contract with ARINC to continue using its common use passenger processing systems (CUPPS) solution at Terminal 2 (T2).

Munich Airport (MUC) in Germany has extended its contract with ARINC to continue using its common use passenger processing systems (CUPPS) solution at Terminal 2 (T2).

As part of the contract, ARINC will continue to offer and maintain its vMUSE CUPPS solution platform that supports new technology, including self-boarding gates and self-service bag drops.

ARINC has previously upgraded the airport's vMUSE 3.2 platform to offer a fully CUPPS-compliant environment for all airlines.

MUC has also installed automated quick boarding gates and sought ARINC to offer support for the current contract lifespan.

As part of the agreement, ARINC will also offer a premium on-site service, with a migration to centralised firewall solutions expected in the first quarter of 2013.

ARINC's vMUSE platform aims to maximise the use of airport infrastructure via shared workstations, trimming down the requirement for complex and costly hardware systems.

vMUSE's open design will facilitate integration with flight information displays, baggage reconciliation, gate management and operational databases.

The vMUSE platform can be interoperable with all the existing common-use terminal equipment (CUTE) technology and future CUPPS.

Arinc's CUPPS technology is expected to cut down the time and efforts to deploy airline applications through standardisation of technical requirements, while offering improved cost savings and faster deployment.

Leveraging the existing IT assets, ARINC MUSE will allow multiple airlines and airport support operations to implement the same basic information system and eliminate complicated interfaces, while cutting redundant resources.

MUC is planning to build a new third runway at the north of the airfield, which will allow it to handle 120 aircraft movements an hour over three runways, with an aim to process 56 million passengers per year by 2020.
