Miami International Airport in Florida, US, has incorporated the latest NextGen technology, Data Comm, to enhance safety and reduce departure delays.

The Data Comm technology is designed to help strengthen voice communications between air traffic controllers and aircraft pilots.

It will allow controllers and pilots to easily transmit important data, including revised flight plans, clearances and advisories.

US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) NextGen assistant administrator Jim Eck said: “Data Comm represents a whole new era of communications between controllers and pilots.

“This translates directly into safer, more efficient operations, helping aircraft take off and reach their destinations on time.”

“Data Comm represents a whole new era of communications between controllers and pilots."

The new Data Comm technology enables flight crews on aircraft to receive information from air traffic controllers through digital messages.

The crew members can review new clearances and then accept the updated data with the push of a button.

Aircraft operators can use Data Comm to keep their spot in an airport's take-off que or even be sent ahead, helping them to depart on time.

After launching more than two and a half years ahead of schedule, the new Data Comm technology is currently operational at 55 air traffic control towers across the US.
