Italy’s Milan Linate Airport has become the 20th airport to use the airport collaborative decision making (A-CDM) system.
The airport will be fully integrated into the European air traffic management (ATM) network.
A-CDM is an integrated platform that provides real-time flight information to EUROCONTROL’s Network Manager operations centre.
The platform combines processes and systems to enhance operational efficiency at airports.
It facilitates improved decision-making based on more accurate information, which is provided to all airport partners.
Other A-CDM airports in Italy include Venice Marco Polo, Rome Fiumicino and Milan Malpensa.
Naples will be the next to join the list in mid-2017.
A-CDM uses landing time estimations provided by Network Manager to assist with aircraft turn-round and pre-departure sequencing processes.
Precise take-off data can be fed into air traffic flow and the capacity management system run by Network Manager, allowing the network to be used more efficiently.
The platform reduces delays, increases the predictability of a flight’s trajectory, and optimises the use of resources at airports.
According to a recent study, A-CDM airports are both operational and cost-efficient, with tactical delay reductions leading to cost savings of nearly €1m in 2015.
