Inframerica will complete the construction of the Sao Gonçalo do Amarante International Airport near Natal, Brazil, by December 2013 as the city gears up to host the FIFA World Cup 2014.

The airport was originally to be finished within three years after starting work in 2011 and wasn't earmarked for completion ahead of the football event.

Inframerica, a consortium including Brazil's Engevix and Argentina's Corporacion America, won the 25-year concession contract to build and operate the airport in August 2011.

The concessionaire is to invest R$650m ($404m) in the airport, which after completion will be able to handle three million passengers by 2014, according to bnamericas.com.
