HKIA passenger traffic rises during July 2012

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) registered 5,027,000 during July 2012, an increase of 0.5% when compared to the same period in 2011.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) registered 5,027,000 during July 2012, an increase of 0.5% when compared to the same period in 2011.

The airport's air traffic movements reported a 3.4% increase to 29,880, while cargo volume declined 1.6% to 335,000t during the month, with 340,000t handled during the July last year.

According to the airport, the climb in passenger traffic was boosted by a 6% rise in travel by Hong Kong residents over the same month last year.

During July, HKIA's cargo imports rose 4%, while the decline in cargo volume was attributed to a 4% year-on-year decrease in exports as well as a 3% drop in transhipments.

HKIA's passenger traffic during the first seven months of 2012 rose 5.9% to 32.7 million, while air traffic movements reported a 5.4% year-on-year rise to 201,760.

So far in 2012, cargo volume at HKIA has declined 0.2% to 2.3 million tonnes.

In the past 12 months, HKIA handled 55.7 million passengers, a 5.9% year-on-year increase, while flight movements climbed 5.5% to 344,160.

On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA's cargo volume has declined 3.1% to 3.9 million tonnes.
