G P Zachariades Engineering and Construction has received a contract for the second phase of expansion of the Bahrain International Airport (BIA).
The BD10m ($26m) contract covers the second enabling works package for the expansion of the new passenger terminal building of BIA, reported The Gulf Daily News.
In particular, the company will be responsible for the construction of a new fire station and associated support infrastructure required north of the runway for the replacement of the existing building that is set to be demolished.
The airport also plans to build 'Supergate', a new access security gate at the end of the airfield to provide airport staff working on the airfield with access to the main airside.
The contract also includes the re-provisioning of aviation fuelling facilities for the Bahrain Aviation Fueling Company for smooth and safe refuelling of aircraft.
G P Zachariades was one of the 12 bidders to be shortlisted for the project. The work on the second phase of expansion is set to begin next month and be completed by May 2016.
Bahrain's transportation and telecommunications minister Kamal Ahmed said: "The tendering process supports the projects schedule and the ministry anticipates the awarding of seven additional contracts by the end of the year, at a combined value of more than BD300m."
The new contract, along with the first enabling works package awarded in February 2014, would include the relocation of all existing utilities and facilities for the construction on the new 206,000m² BIA passenger terminal building.
