Dubai International Airport (DXB) has launched a new service integrating its popular smartphone app with smartwatches to provide travel information for passengers.

The new service will allow customers travelling to and from the international airport to receive real-time travel information on their smartwatch.

DXB's smartwatch app is available on both iOS and Android software platforms, and aims to enhance passengers' travelling experience.

Dubai Airports Digital Media head Matthew Horobin said: "This development is part of an ongoing series of digital initiatives at Dubai Airports that are aimed at enabling easy access to personalised information that allows our customers greater freedom to plan their journey and make the most of their time at the airport.

"It's a service that will find appreciation among the increasing number of travellers that are now smartphone and smartwatch users."

The smartwatch app will be able to display current flight status, terminal, gate and baggage belt information, as well as the correct arrival or departure time of the flights.

Matthew added: "As part of the first phase of the project the smartwatch app currently provides customers access to only the most important information related to their flight.

"There are plans to make the app more interactive while also widening its functionality to include wayfinding and commercial offers from food and beverage and retail outlets across the airport."

The smartwatch app was developed through a joint collaboration of Dubai Airports and M2Mobi, an Amsterdam-based marketing agency.

In January, DXB handled a passenger traffic of 7.3 million, a 6.3% rise in passenger traffic compared to the same month in 2015.
