Dubai International Airport has received approval for its $900m (AED3.3bn) Concourse D from the 2,000 UAE residents who participated in the first operational readiness trial.
The new concourse is designed to cater to the needs of over 70 international network airlines operating at the airport's Terminal 1, which has been recently revamped.
Before the primary trial was performed, the Dubai International Airport's (DXB's) Concourse D had undergone a series of other trials and tests in which the airport staff and stakeholders participated.
The successful trial is a result of the efforts made by Dubai Airports in collaboration with its main partners that include the airlines, data and control authorities such as Dubai Police, the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs and Dubai Customs.
The trial simulated a usual airport operation at the new concourse to analyse the promptness and efficiency of staff, systems and processes.
It also simulated a real-time situation with approximately 2,000 people volunteers acting as real passengers arriving at, departing from and travelling through the Concourse D.
This trial was carried out to test the efficiency of the signboards and the flow of passenger traffic within the new facility.
The participants in the trial included men, women, senior citizens, children and specially-abled individuals.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said: "I would like to thank all the volunteers for taking time out on their weekend and bringing their families along to help us get the new concourse ready for opening.
"The final element of our $7.8bn Strategic Plan 2020, Concourse D is a timely welcome addition to Dubai International.
"It's a facility designed around the needs and comfort our customers, who will surely notice and appreciate the short walking distances to boarding gates, and the accessible layout of a wide variety of world class food and retail offerings."
The latest Concourse D will increase the capacity of the DXB Airport from 75 million to 90 million passengers every year.
