The General Authority of Civil Aviation / Air Navigation Services (GACA/ANS) of Saudi Arabia has awarded a contract to Comsoft for the delivery of its Prisma air traffic management (ATM) system.

According to GACA, the new integrated ATM will replace the existing system and allow the agency to handle additional air traffic during the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and ensure safe, systematic and punctual management.

Comsoft's Prisma solution will be installed in Jeddah, Riyadh and the approach unit in Dammam to manage the airspace across Saudi Arabia.

The Prisma ATM solution incorporates several air navigation functions, ranging from pre-flight planning to real-time air navigation, which will be deployed in area control centres and approach units, as well as for tower control applications.

Following installation, the interoperability functions of the new ATM system will offer enhanced flight safety over Saudi Arabia.

The central components of the area control centres in Jeddah will be identically replicated as a contingency system in Riyadh and vice versa to ensure redundancy, as well as service continuity.

The contract also includes provision of six remote towers, full testing and the delivery of a training environment.

Features of the Prisma ATM system include a scalable ATC automation system for en-route, approach and tower control, a flight data processing system (FDPS) with dynamic flight profiles, inter-sector coordination, accurate estimations, revision management and traffic prediction.

Other features include multi-sensor SDPS, supporting PSR, SSR, Mode S, ADS-B, ADS-C and WAM sources, as well as a set of ground-based safety net functions in addition to data, voice and screen content recording functions.
