Abu Dhabi Airports Company plans to invite bids for the construction of a $6.8bn midfield terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The terminal, which was originally scheduled to complete in 2010, will now take five years to complete from the finalisation of the tender.
The 630,000m² midfield terminal will be built between the two existing runways at the airport and include a multistorey car park.
Designed by US-based Kohn Pederson Fox Associates, the terminal building will have a capacity of 20 million passengers in its first year of operation.
In April, 14 groups submitted pre-qualification documents for the contract and the pre-qualification process has just been completed, according to steelguru.com.
