SITA Aero has awarded a contract to Logan Teleflex to install advanced baggage handling system (BHS) technology at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Tanzania.

Logan Teleflex will install 16 check-in counters, one out-of-gauge check-in, a single 100% hold baggage screening line, a horizontal make-up carousel and security doors at the airport.

The screening line will include Rapiscan MVXR and 628XR X-ray machines with four workstations to provide Level 2 and Level 3 security screening.

The BHS will be equipped with a programmable logic controller to manage the conveyor using a special procedure called window reservation.

The baggage system will reduce passenger waiting times and speed up the flow of bags through the system.

Gate Technology will supply the check-in counters, departure gate counters and immigration booths, while baggage transportation, roller and conveyor systems and weigh scales will be supplied by Logan Teleflex.
