Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems has received a contract to supply and install the air traffic control radio communications system for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

Under the contract, Northrop will provide 80 very high frequency (VHF) radios of both high power (300W) and standard power (50W) output for Nigeria's flight information regional communications network.

The VHF radios will integrate with the existing and planned communications network and area control centre equipment to achieve total VHF coverage in Nigeria.

The $1.6m contract is part of NAMA's "Total VHF Coverage of Nigeria" programme, aimed to provide effective air-ground communications between pilots and Nigerian air traffic control centres.

NAMA's main control sites includes Lagos and Kano, while the associated en-route remote radio sites are Sokoto, Maiduguri, Jos, Abuja, Ilorin, Port Harcourt and Wukari.
