Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Kenya has signed an agreement with SkyCargo and Astral Aviation to be the first airline customers at its new Transglobal Cargo Centre.

The cargo centre includes a multi-storey elevating transfer vehicle-based perishables handling system with a capacity for storing 160 pallets.

The facility has roller bed access and a 1,000m² perishables inspection and re-packing area.

The centre alone will have a cargo handling capacity of 250,000t each year in its 12,351m² warehouse, according to handyshippingguide.com.

Jomo Kenyatta airport has the second highest cargo throughput in Africa, measured at 290,500t in 2009.
