Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport in China recorded a 7.66% increase in the number of flight departures and landings amounting to 37,131 in the first half of this year, when compared with 2009 figures.

The airport handled a record 4.95 million passengers during the period and an average of 79,000 passengers daily.

On 1 August 2010, Shuangliu Airport handled 654 aircraft departures and landings, and 90,000 passengers according to chinahospitalitynews.com.

The rise in traffic and aircraft movement has been attributed to the rapid economic growth in Chengdu and the tourism market in the region.

Last year the airport handled a total of 22,637,762 passengers to become the busiest airport in western China, and the sixth busiest airport across the country
