Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems will supply its surface movement radar and air traffic monitor systems for the virtual contingency facility (VCF) at Heathrow International Airport in the UK.
Northrop will provide its NOVA 9000 advanced-surface movement guidance and control system (A-SMGCS) equipment and NOVA 9000 air traffic monitors for the airport.
The NOVA 9000 will enhance the VCF operations and enable air traffic controllers to monitor and control flights when there is low visibility, according to Northrop.
Operated by NATS Services, the VCF is the world's first full safety-certified remote airport contingency control room, which allows flight movement through Heathrow if the main control tower malfunctions.
Northrop will also supply NATS Services to its NORMARC 7000B Instrument Landing Systems CAT III for Newcastle International Airport, Luton International Airport and Leeds Bradford International Airport.
The NORMARC 7000B uses advanced technology to ensure safe and precise landings during difficult visibility conditions.
