Delta Air Lines and AirTran Airways have signed an agreement to pay additional rent at the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in the US to help fund a new international terminal.

Under the agreement, both the airlines will pay a supplementary fee of $30m over four years from 2013 to 2016 to aid in the terminal's construction, which is expected to be complete in 2012.

The terminal will serve passengers arriving from outside the United States and open an eastern access to the airport.

The city of Atlanta will also issue a bond of around $620m to meet the capital requirements for the terminal, according to Reuters.
