Malaysia Begins New LCCT Construction

Malaysia has begun construction of its new low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT), Kuala Lumpur International Airport Two (KLIA 2).

The 237,000m² KLIA 2, to be built at a cost of MYR997.23m ($316.58m), will be 60% larger than the existing LCCT.

It will include 96 boarding gates with 72 for international flights and a 300m sky bridge to connect the main building and the satellite building.

On completion the terminal is expected to handle 30 million passengers each year, and 45 million passengers following further expansion works.

Work on the terminal will be complete in April 2012, according to Xinhua News Agency.
