A Boeing 737-700 passenger jet crashed on the runway of Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport in San Andres, Colombia, on 16 August, killing one passenger and injuring 114 others.

The Aires plane, carrying 126 passengers, including four children and six crew members, was struck by lightning and its fuselage broke into three pieces after crash-landing on the runway.

The flight took off from the Colombian capital Bogota around two hours before the crash at San Andres, according to Reuters.

The San Andres airport was immediately closed to begin an investigation into the accident.

A female passenger identified as Amar Fernandez de Barreto suffered a heart attack just after the accident and died, while the injured were taken to local hospitals.
