Bahrain Meteorological Service has awarded a contract to MENA Aerospace Enterprises to upgrade the weather radar system at Bahrain International Airport.

Under the contract, MENA will manufacture and install the radar system over the next five months in collaboration with US-based Enterprise Electronics Corporation.

The system will have the advanced capability of forecasting adverse weather conditions for the Kingdom of Bahrain, and providing a complete picture of real-time weather conditions.

It will equip airlines, pilots and aircraft operators with the data required to make decisions about the weather and its impact on flight operations, according to MENA.

The system can be networked with other systems in the region to provide large-scale observations and forecasting tools.

It will enable Bahrain Meteorological Service weather forecasters to prepare short-term forecasts for high-impact weather events, which may impact safe operations of aircraft at the airport.
