ITT Corporation has announced the commercial availability of real-time air traffic surveillance and tracking data to commercial customers in the US National Airspace System.

The launch will be the first sale of data collected through the Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) network deployed as part of the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) NextGen initiative.

The ITT air traffic data service will provide situational awareness information that can be used to optimise the business operations of airlines and airport operators.

ITT has developed and deployed the secure system, which will fuse real-time nationwide data from multiple FAA-trusted surveillance sources such as the ADS-B network and the existing terminal.

It will also fuse data from en-route air traffic control surveillance radars and output from Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Model X (ASDE-X), a runway safety tool system.

The system will also support data streaming to customers, archiving and data retrieval for historical analysis.
