Private aircraft operators caused chaos at Durban International Airport, South Africa, by ignoring directives to offload passengers at King Shaka International Airport before returning to Durban International Airport.

The airport witnessed increased air traffic because of the FIFA World Cup semi-final between Spain and Germany, with many internal flights due to land in Durban delayed because allocated spaces were used by private aircraft.

Airports Company South Africa and Air Traffic and Navigation Services attempted to resolve the situation, however, not all aircraft were able to land on time.
