The Philippine authorities are planning to install a new instrument landing system (ILS) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Department of Transportation and Communications secretary Jose De Jesus said installation and calibration of system will be completed by 30 July 2010, after which flight tested will be carried out.

De Jesus expects the ILS to be operational by the first week of August at the latest.

A new RNAV (Area Navigation) system has also been commissioned, and several airlines are already using it on their landing approach.
